    Day 1

Welcome at Lisbon airport. Transfer to Vila Nova de Milfontes (2h15 drive) and briefing about your mountain biking in Portugal.

    Day 2

    The Coast and The Cliffs

From now on you will ride along the west coast of Portugal :). Now you are in the Natural Park of SW of Alentejo and the Vicentine Coast, the longest preserved area on the coast of Europe :). After km 23 and for 6km you will ride on the cliffs, a very protected area, but with some sandy trails. It is a challange to keep up with your mountain bicycle! At km 36.5 you will find a very very short climb with 12% of grade, and at km 40 another one! Be careful with the technical descent at km 51 (-13% grade). 😉

    Day 3

The Beautiful Beaches at The Vicentine Coast

Yesterday you saw some beautiful beaches while you were riding your mountain bike, and today this scenery continues :). Don’t forget that you are on the coast and that some ways are a little bit sandy. The first very steep climb with 13% of grade is very short, it is the way to the castle (cobbles stones), and it appears at km 19.5. But the ex-libris of the day starts at km 40 with the gorgeous views over the cliffs and the ocean, during 6km!! 🙂 Another very protected area of this Natural Park! 🙂

    Day 4

    The South-Westernmost Point of Europe

Maybe you feel the beginning of the bike day a little bit boring because your mind is now focused on the coast, and here you are in the forest. However, after km 12 you start to see the ocean again and some wild beaches. Now that you get the sea level again prepare your mind to climb the next two climbs, 1km long each, but with 8% of grade!

  • 43km (27mi)

  • level 3 (2.7)

  • 570m (1870ft)

    Day 5

    The Coast of The Algarve

Today you only get to the first beach at km 23; you are now mountain biking along the south coast of Portugal (not the west coast anymore). Also, it is right here that you will have the steepest section of the entire bike tour. It is on asphalt and the sign on the road tells you that, in some parts (+-150m) the climb will be 16% of grade. If the road bikers do it, …you can also do it with your mountain bicycle! 😀 The way continues with some ups and downs here and there, but at km 31 the way becomes a single-track and it is very technical and rocky, for a half of a mile (+-500m)!. Some sections are impossible to be cycled so, please go by hand ;). At km 40 be careful with the barbed wire that is on your right side ;). Now you got another spot, another ex-libris with gorgeous views over the south coast of Portugal and the Algarve. Pay attention to the way, because there are no fences. 😉 Enjoy it! :). Almost at the end of the cycling day go behind the Lighthouse and enjoy the great view with the rock formations! 😉
