The Amazing Algarve Coast Guided

Hybrid Bike | Guided | Landscape

This is a landscape bicycle tour in Portugal that takes place along the south coast of Portugal. You will start in Sagres, which is the place from where our brave forefathers sailed on their caravels seeking new peoples and continents. Cape S. Vicente is the start point, the south-westernmost point in Continental Europe – the place where the land ends and the sea begins. And you will always ride eastwards towards the Spanish border.

The overall difficulty level of this tour is 2, Moderate (more precisely, level 2.4 between 1~5). It is recommended for enthusiast bikers.

On this bike tour in Portugal you will visit some of the beaches of our famous Algarve including the cosmopolitan city of Lagos. This is one of the oldest towns in the Algarve. We can still see evidence of the wall surrounding the town for protection. Lagos also has an old fort and its former Slave Market is now an art gallery. You will ride along the world-famous Algarve coast where you can see some amazing Golf resorts and very beautiful beaches.

You will visit Albufeira and Vilamoura, very fancy touristic places, the old quarters in Faro (the city capital of the Algarve), the typical city of Tavira with Moorish influence with its countless buildings and monuments and the amazing Roman bridge over the Gilão river in the historic center. You will ride along the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, a lagoon system that extends itself over 60km of the coast and which is a passing area for the migrating fauna of Europe to North of Africa and it is also the “winter resort” for many birds from North and Central Europe.

This bike tour in Portugal ends in Tavira, a town that still manages to maintain its traditions.

You will notice the differences along the Algarve region: the center is very developed for tourism and the west and the east still maintain many evidences of the old Portuguese ways and traditions.

“This was an Amazing Algarve Coast bike tour. You have to go! This bike tour with Portugal Bike was wonderful! From the beginning when contacting them to the end drop-off back in Lisbon, this bike trip exceeded my expectation. I had the perfect vacation seeing the Algarve Coast by bike. The bikes were in great condition, the ride was well organized, the scenery was amazingly beautiful, the lunches were fresh and local, good hotel locations and the daily chatter we shared while riding led to a spectacular experience. We were able to enjoy time in each town at the end of the ride in the late day to interact with the locals, explore the beaches and dining/drinking establishments. Each day was well thought out and ran seamlessly for the riders. We shared many stories, laughter and learned about the Portuguese culture along the way. Thank you Jose, Cristina and of course, our sweeper, Pedro. See you in Boston someday, I hope! Sign up now, you will love the trip. Worth every penny or euro! Obrigada!”

Lynn Green, 54 – Boston MA, United States

“This was our 7th biking trip in Europe, and the couple who run Portugal Bike are far and away the best trip organizers and leaders we have experienced. They do a fantastic job in every aspect of the trip, starting with their site and its explanation of their trips, their quickly answered and comprehensive e-mails when booking or asking questions or for help, their meet and greet at the airport, their pre-trip orientation and, certainly not least, every aspect of the trip itself. (…) Their constant attention to detail leads me to believe they perhaps had a hand in selecting our 11 person group, as we could not have been with a more enjoyable bunch of people, who had us laughing all the way across southern Portugal. A final word, about our sweeper, Pedro. He too was delightful and, like Jose, went out of his way to explain cultural and historical points as we biked each day, opening our eyes to new and interesting aspects of our experience of the country. We’d like to emphasize that Jose, Cristina, and Pedro are not longer acquaintances, but, rather, as Jose said, “family”.”

Sandy Simmers, 70 – Virginia, United States

“Our trip with Portugal Bike was our first bike tour. Would we do it again with Portugal Bike? The answer is a huge YES! All aspects of our bike tour were handled superbly. Great bikes, excellent and fun meals at local restaurants, interesting and creative bike routes, and fine lodgings. And most importantly, thoughtful hosts and guides. For a fun active vacation, we highly recommend Portugal Bike Tours!”

Pat Snodgrass, 64 – Cedar Grove NJ, United States

“We had a great time! We were a group of 14 friends. We were lucky to have enjoyed a week of great weather too, the scenery in the Algarve is amazing and on a bicycle was a great way to see it. Our tour took us through some areas that would be incredibly difficult to find by our own and then we would have missed the beautiful views. The tour hotels were all very good and served an ample breakfast to start our day. The bike quality was very good and they were new and well outfitted. This is the fifth bike tour we did in Europe. It was the first time that we were doing a guided tour and we were impressed by the excellent organization of José and Cristina. Thanks to Cristina for the excellent picnic with foods from the region. After all, we had a wonderful time on this tour. The tour company was very professional in all ways.”
