The Westernmost Point of Europe Self-Guided
Hybrid Bike | Self-Guided | Landscape
This tour starts in the beautiful and romantic town of Sintra and our way leads us to the westernmost point of Continental Europe, the Cape Roca.
The overall difficulty level of this tour is 2, Moderate (level 1.5 between 1~5, precisely). It is recommended for enthusiast bikers.
After leaving the town we start climbing the hills and you can see the dense vegetation and enjoy the beautiful ways of this amazing and romantic landscape. The tour continues along the quiet roads of this National Park, where the trees on both sides of the way form tunnels of trees.
After enjoying this beautiful landscape you will start riding down the hills always surrounded by dense vegetation until you get to the main road. Here, you continue towards Cape Roca, a place that is visited by thousands of people every year just to admire the view and stand at the westernmost point of Continental Europe, which is about 140m above sea level; its coordinates are N 38º 47′ (latitude) and W 9º 30′ (longitude). Here you can read the famous phrase written by Camoes (Portuguese poet who lived in the 16th century): “Here… the place where the land ends and the sea begins…”
Here, upon request, you can have a Certificate with your name and date certifying that you really stood on the westernmost point of Continental Europe.
